Game breathes new life into digital assets by hatching living blockchain characters on Binance NFT

Published at: Nov. 8, 2021

Pokemon gained popularity for allowing players to connect, Tamagotchi for its ability to care for digital pets and CryptoKitties for their ability to earn on the blockchain. While Pokemon and Tamagotchi shaped the lives of the 90s kids, many quickly abandoned their online creatures as they grew up and took on jobs. CryptoKitties later aimed to address the concern around earnings by building their digital kitties with unique genetic code with the ERC-721 (NFT) Protocol.

NFTs or nonfungible tokens brought about a new kind of revolution, allowing gamers and collectors to earn real money from their online participation in the community. Each asset was completely unique and guaranteed ownership through the blockchain's transparent nature. While CryptoKitties took collecting to new heights, the game was static, leaving users with little more than a very nice .png or .gif.

Krytomon arose with the mission to breathe life into NFTs, taking the best of Pokemon, Tamagotchi and CryptoKitties in the next step in the evolution of crypto gaming by using advanced blockchain technologies, digital genetics and location-based technologies. A Kryptomon is a one-of-a-kind digital creature linked to an NFT and complete with a unique genetic code. Kryptomons take the concept of NFTs one step further, as creatures are alive and require care in addition to being fed, healed and trained to make them stronger.

Kryptomon has since collaborated with Binance NFT, the official NFT marketplace for the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, to unveil an exclusive sale of 2,000 Kryptomon eggs for Binance users only. The Kryptomon team sees this collaboration as its first step onto the world stage, bringing the project to the attention of NFT gamers and collector communities alike.

Eggs are hatching

Before trainers can enter the Kryptomon's world, they must get their hands on an egg. Currently, there are only 6,200 eggs in circulation and 75,000 players interested in participating, a value based on the number of KMON token holders. As it stands, demand for these assets greatly supersedes the supply. This is where the exclusive sale on Binance comes into play.

Users will now gain a short 12-hour window to purchase special Mystery Boxes from the Binance NFT Marketplace beginning at 12:00 pm UTC, Nov. 8. Mystery Boxes will each contain one Kryptomon egg that retails at 95 BUSD, a seemingly affordable price, considering the resell value on secondary markets is estimated by the team to be $325 per egg (at the time of writing).

Further adding to the mystery of the sale, participants gain the chance to discover a Kryptomon egg from an earlier generation when they open their Mystery Box. The team even reports that one of these mystery box holders will earn a Gen 0 Kryptomon egg, only one of 100 to ever exist in the game. Given the scarcity of each Gen 0 Kryptomon, a recent sale of such a rare commodity was made at  54 BNB, and a recent sale of a mega-rare Legendary Gen 0 egg was sold for 72.45 BNB (or approximately $47,500) on the secondhand market. An opportunity to tap into a user's childhood and invest early in a new NFT project.

In what is said to be an added bonus, the owner of this rare item will also get the opportunity to join the founders of the Kryptomon project in one of their Founders Talks sessions, an AMA session hosted by the members of the team to connect to the greater community.

A breath of new life

This exclusive sale is only one of the game's steps to bring a new experience to NFTs. The Kryptomon team has also announced the launch of version 2.0 of their game, which will provide players with the opportunity to explore the metaverse and physical world with their Kryptomon or battle and breed it. Furthermore, the launch of their Android and iOS games will enable trainers to tackle more creatures around them and participate in various adventures with their Kryptomon, making the dream of any Pokemon fan to become a true trainer for a living reality - thanks to Kryptomon’s play-and-earn game mechanics.

Is Illuvium the first fun crypto RPG video game?
Blockchain games have been quite popular among crypto enthusiasts for a long time because they use cryptocurrency as an in-game tool. In these kinds of games, blockchain technology is used to secure the absolute ownership of game items, represented by tokens. For example, by purchasing an in-game nonfungible token (NFT), a player can be sure that he possesses a truly rare item that can be stored and controlled outside the game. This ownership provides a completely new player-driven economy where players can create their own unique content. However, crypto games are still far from the legacy PC or console games …
