Bitcoin crowd sentiment hit multi-month high as BTC price touches $21K

Published at: Jan. 19, 2023

Bitcoin (BTC) price climbed to a four-month high above $21,000 in the third week of January, relishing trader’s hope. The market has seen the most substantial investor optimism since July due to the January BTC price rebound.

According to data shared by crypto analytic firm Santiment, the trading crowd sentiment has touched its highest in six months and second highest bullish sentiment in the past 14 months. The data indicates that traders are treating Bitcoin's price rebound as a signal of a possible bigger breakout in the near future.

The term "crowd/investor sentiment" describes how investors generally feel about a specific asset or financial market. It refers to the mood or tenor of a market, or the psychology of its participants, as expressed by activity and changes in the price of the asset exchanged in that market.

The chart above shows three major spikes in investor sentiment since 2021. The first major spike in sentiment came in November 2021, followed by the BTC price surge to a new all-time high of $68,789. The second major spike came in July 2022 amid hints by Fed about possible inflation ease, followed by a minor price surge. While the price rise post-spike in crowd sentiments in July last year wasn’t very significant due to market-wide bearish sentiment, traders did buy the dip at $19,000.

The latest spike in crowd sentiment came after a prolonged winter in 2022. Market analysts believe the BTC price rebound could be a sign of a market bottom. According to independent market analyst HornHairs, the time from bottom to top and top to bottom has remained constant since 2015 at 152 weeks and 52 weeks, respectively.

The run-up to the top and bottom of the prior cycles look surprisingly similar when examining the long-term price behaviour of Bitcoin. What's more intriguing is that the cycle for 2020–2021 appears to be following a similar trend.

Diminishing returns: Is Bitcoin underperforming compared with altcoins?
The first half of 2021 in the crypto markets brought many comparisons to 2017. Bitcoin (BTC) was on a tear to its all-time high, the new frontier of decentralized finance emerged, and nonfungible tokens were gaining myriad celebrity endorsements. But after the initial months of euphoria and a subsequent sell-off, BTC’s performance has been far more lackluster. The recent market sell-off resulting from the Evergrande crisis has compounded fears. However, it can’t be ignored that many altcoins, particularly platform tokens, have undergone impressive runs and, in some cases, even bucked broader market trends. With hopes still high that another bull …

Dreading September? Bitcoin price hopes to break the slump trend
Bitcoin (BTC) has been struggling to break the $50,000 mark for over 10 days now. Since then, the token has dropped below the mark to trade in the $49,000 range before rebounding to hit the $50,000 mark yet again on Sept. 3. As Bitcoin often behaves in a cyclical pattern, a look at the monthly trends for September could reveal patterns in the price, which in turn could be helpful to gauge the outlook for the upcoming month. Historically, September has been one …

Afraid to buy the dip? Bitcoin options provide a safer way to ‘go long’ from $38K
The last time Bitcoin (BTC) traded above $50,000 was Dec. 27, 2021. Since then, four months have passed, but traders seem somewhat optimistic that inflation has hit the necessary threshold to trigger cryptocurrency adoption. In theory, the 8.5% inflation in the United States means that every five years, the prices increase by 50%. This essentially turns $100 into $66 by slashing 33% of the dollar’s purchasing power. The U.S. Federal Reserve FOMC meeting is expected to rule on the interest rates on May 4, but more importantly, the FED is expected to announce a program to offload part of its …

3 key crypto price events to watch in the wake of the FTX and Alameda debacle
Up until the start of this week, Bitcoin (BTC) had been demonstrating record-low volatility, and this gave altcoins enough latitude to paint some nice technical setups. At the same time, on-chain data and technical analysis were beginning to suggest that BTC was midway through carving out a bottom, and many analysts believed that brighter days lay ahead. Fast forward to the present, and the volatility spike the market received actually turned out to be a black swan event. As you already know, FTX is kaput. Alameda Research is kaput. BlockFi has put a stop to withdrawals, citing an inability to …

Bitcoin’s bear market is far from over, but data points to improving investor sentiment
2022 was a near-unprecedented year of extremes and black swan events for the crypto market, and now that the year is about to wrap up, analysts are reflecting on the lessons learned and attempting to identify the trends which may point to bullish price action in 2023. The collapse of Terra Luna, Three Arrows Capital and FTX created a credit crunch, a severe reduction in capital inflows and an increased threat that additional major centralized exchanges could collapse. Despite the severity of the market downturn, a few positives have emerged. Data shows long-term hodlers and smaller-sized wallets are actively accumulating …
