Dogecoin surges 40% on back of Coinbase Pro listing, Musk tweets

Published at: June 2, 2021

Meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE) gained more than 40% early on Wednesday morning, following its listing on Coinbase Pro and yet another flurry of tweets from self-appointed DOGE spokesperson Elon Musk.

Coinbase announced the listing of Dogecoin on its pro trader platform, Coinbase Pro, on Tuesday, sparking a swift revival in the coin’s fortunes. DOGE’s price sank 59% over the course of the previous month, following the wider market crash in early March.

On Tuesday, the coin’s price jumped from $0.3137 up to $0.4398 in the hours following the Coinbase announcement, resulting in 40% growth overnight.

Coinbase is now accepting inbound deposits in anticipation of Dogecoin trading starting in earnest on Thursday, assuming enough liquidity is present. Trading will commence across five trading pairs: DOGE/USD, DOGE/BTC, DOGE/EUR, DOGE/GBP and DOGE/USDT.

Tesla’s Musk may have lent further exposure to DOGE on Tuesday when he posted yet another Dogecoin meme. This time, the meme showed the eponymous dog huddled over a 1980s computer setup accompanied by the caption: “I have to keep my passion hidden from the public or I’ll be socially ostracized.”

Musk also retweeted an old Dogecoin meme he first tweeted in 2020, depicting the dog sweeping across the world as it replaces the existing financial system.

In between moving the coin prices of both Dogecoin and Bitcoin (BTC), Musk has also taken care to remind his 56 million followers that he isn’t officially connected to the project in any way and that his ability to affect change on it was limited.

The token prices of Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Chiliz (CHZ) jumped 33% and 26%, respectively, on Wednesday, following the announcement of the pair’s listing on Coinbase Pro. Inbound transfers for Shiba Inu and Chiliz were announced alongside Keep Network (KEEP) by Coinbase Pro on Tuesday. Trading is set to begin on Thursday, assuming liquidity conditions are met. The trading pairs will launch in three phases: post-only, limit-only and full trading. Shiba Inu burst onto the scene in late April, seemingly as a bi-product of the attention brought on meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE) by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The token’s imagery …

No, Musk, don’t blame Bitcoin for dirty energy — The problem lies deeper
Elon Musk is definitely interested in digital currency, but it seems that he doesn’t want to understand it. At least, I worry that he doesn't have a deep enough understanding of Bitcoin (BTC) and decentralized systems in general. A decentralized system has to be secure, and proof-of-work (PoW) is the solution for Bitcoin to secure its digital asset. The more successful Bitcoin is, the more energy is required for PoW to secure the network. In other words, the reason that Bitcoin uses up so much more electricity than Dogecoin (DOGE), for example, is because BTC is much more secure than …

Bitcoin’s drop from $64K comparable to Black Thursday, but Coinbase outflows hint at accumulation
Elon Musk and COVID-19 have something in common: They have both panicked investors — at least once — into dumping their Bitcoin (BTC) holdings. The similarities notched up higher in the previous six days as Musk doubled down on his chaos-inducing perspective toward Bitcoin. The billionaire entrepreneur engaged in a Twitter spat with top cryptocurrency advocates over the weekend, including podcaster Peter McCormick, as he projected his favorite token, Dogecoin (DOGE), as superior to Bitcoin. Obnoxious threads like this make me want to go all in on Doge — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 16, 2021 At one point in time, …

Dog coin combines the power of memes with real utility through an NFT metaverse
A dog that once gained popularity as a meme with broken English has since evolved into an entire movement for the people. While many consider these currencies for their innovation and investment opportunities, technology is only really good if it makes life easier and contributes to making the world a better place. By using the popularity of memes, along with real utility and charitability, comes power and opportunity to those once considered the underdogs. As a result, the dog pack is operating full steam ahead, with what might be a new leader. Branded as a “movement token,” FLOKI aims to …

Dogecoin is better than Bitcoin for payments, Elon Musk declares
Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes that Bitcoin (BTC) is not that good for everyday payments as the meme-based cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE). Musk compared the world’s largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, to DOGE in a Time Magazine interview shortly after being named Time’s 2021 Person of the Year. “Bitcoin is not a good substitute for transactional currency. Even though it was created as a silly joke, Dogecoin is better suited for transactions. The total transaction flow that you do with Dogecoin, like transactions per day, is much higher potential than Bitcoin,” Musk said. Tesla CEO emphasized that Bitcoin is more suitable as a …
