How a DAO for a bank or financial institution will look like
Global banking network as a DAO Imagining a DAO-based global banking network may seem far-fetched at the moment, but not impossible. If blockchain technology is widely adopted within the financial industry, it is not hard to imagine a future in which banks are run as DAOs. In such a scenario, bank management would be decentralized, with power vested in the hands of the network’s members. Furthermore, the adoption of DAOs will likely result in a more equitable distribution of power within banks and financial institutions. It could lead to a more democratic form of governance, one that can better meet …

Crypto’s uses and misuses: Binance–Reuters quarrel raises questions
Crypto exchange Binance has courted controversy almost since its 2017 beginnings, and five years later, the dustups continue. On June 6, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission was reported to be investigating whether Binance Holdings broke United States securities rules in launching its digital tokens. Meanwhile, on the same day, Reuters published a scathing 4,700-word “special report” titled “How crypto giant Binance became a hub for hackers, fraudsters and drug traffickers.” Binance almost immediately retorted to Reuters with a blog post of its own, warning about “authors and pundits who cherry pick data, rely on conveniently unverifiable ‘leaks’ from …

Elusive Bitcoin ETF: Hester Peirce criticizes lack of legal clarity for crypto
The crypto sector may be maturing, but regulatory clarity around the treatment of digital assets continues to remain cumbersome. This was recently highlighted by Commissioner Hester Peirce — also known as the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) “crypto mom” — in remarks she made at “The Regulatory Transparency Project Conference on Regulating the New Crypto Ecosystem: Necessary Regulation or Crippling Future Innovation?” Peirce began her speech by emphasizing the importance of “regulating the new crypto ecosystem.” While this may be, Peirce also noted that the crypto industry is still in search of an actual regulator. She said: “A …

Which decentralized finance innovations are expected by the DeFi community?
While the broader crypto market is on a downward spiral and social media is plagued with fears and complaints, some are choosing to focus on the decentralized finance (DeFi) space's potential for the future. In a DeFi subreddit, Redditor Popular_Rub9075 asked community members what they want to see more of in the DeFi space. According to the Redditor, while negative discussions are prevalent in social channels, a "great time" to look into projects that have potential is when the market is down. In response to the thread, Reddit user Crumbedsausage said that he wishes to see more Liquid Ether (ETH) …

Ankr partners with Optimism to provide a fast and reliable RPC service for users
Ankr, one of the industry’s fastest RPC providers and web3 developer toolsets, has announced that it will become a remote procedure call provider for Optimism. Optimism is an open-source layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that focuses on speed and efficient transactions across the network. It has caught the eyes of many in recent months, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. This is a great example of why I'm so proud of @optimismPBC for adding non-token governance (the Citizen House). Optimism explicitly has goals *other* than just "make OP go up", and the only way to do that long-term is with explicit …

The crypto industry must do more to promote encryption, says Meltem Demirors
“I like to call myself a future, or aspiring, cult leader,” Meltem Demirors, chief strategy officer of CoinShares — a publicly listed investment firm managing around $5 billion in assets — told Cointelegraph. Demirors, who first entered the Bitcoin (BTC) space in late 2012, further mentioned that it has been “fun to see how big the crypto sector has become,” noting that people from all walks of life are now interested in the cryptocurrency space. As such, Demirors explained that “crypto cults” are bringing people together in a positive manner, especially since it gives people a sense of purpose and …

Scientists claim to have designed a fully decentralized stablecoin pegged to electricity
Researchers at the federally funded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California have combined statistical mechanics and information theory to design a class of stablecoin dubbed the Electricity Stablecoin (E-Stablecoin) that would transmit energy as a form of information. Livermore’s Maxwell Murialdo and Jonathan L. Belof say their innovation would make it possible to transmit electricity without physical wires or a grid and create a fully collateralized stablecoin pegged to a physical asset – electricity – that is dependent on its utility for is value. According to the scientists, the E-Stablecoin would be minted through the input of one kilowatt-hour of …

Ethereum price enters ‘oversold’ zone for the first time since November 2018
Ethereum’s native token Ether (ETH) entered its “oversold” territory this June 12, for the first time since November 2018, according to its weekly relative strength index (RSI). This is the last time $ETH went oversold on the weekly (hasn’t confirmed here yet). I had no followers, but macro bottom ticked it. Note, you can push way lower on weekly rsi, not trying to catch a bottom. https://t.co/kLCynTKTcS — The Wolf Of All Streets (@scottmelker) June 12, 2022 ETH eyes oversold bounce Traditional analysts consider an asset to be excessively sold after its RSI reading fall below 30. Furthermore, they also …

Centralized vs. decentralized digital networks: Key differences
Disadvantages of centralized and decentralized networks Censorship, limited scalability and security issues are some of the downsides of centralized networks. Meanwhile, lack of clarity, high setup and maintenance costs, and volatility are the weak points of decentralized networks. In a centralized system, there is often a single point of failure. If the central authority is compromised, it can bring down the entire system — a major disadvantage, especially in systems where security is critical. As for scalability, a centralized system can often only grow as fast as the central authority allows it. Restrictive development could be disheartening when users are …

Self-regulatory orgs for crypto keep ecosystem afloat pending clear regulations
The crypto market is growing at a rapid pace, with governments and various regulatory bodies actively trying to study and keep up with the growth. While many policymakers around the globe have come to realize that banning the crypto market is not an option, many are yet to come up with a formidable framework to regulate the nascent market in their respective countries. Even some of the most crypto-friendly countries have only managed to regulate parts of the crypto market such as crypto trading while a significant chunk of crypto-related activities still remains a gray area. Thus, for a rapidly …
