Here’s why bears hope to pin Bitcoin under $60K ahead of Friday’s $1.1B options expiry
Bitcoin (BTC) bulls were euphoric when the price soared to $69,000 on Nov. 10 because the 14.5% gain accumulated over five days meant they were in for a $715 million profit on Friday’s options expiry. However, the 9% negative price move on Nov. 16 caught bulls by surprise, especially since most of the call (buy) options for Friday have been placed at $66,000 or higher. Curiously, that price level has been the exception rather than the norm. Bears might have been lucky because the two negative events happened in the past few days. On Nov. 12, the United States Securities …

Traders watch for a trend reversal after Ethereum price drops to $4,100
Ether (ETH) traders might have a few reasons to panic after today's 13% drop down to $4,100. The swift pullback appears to have broken a 55-day ascending channel that had a target at $5,500. Those not worried about technical analysis will understand that the cryptocurrency's 3.4% daily volatility justifies the 10% negative price swing. Still, one should not disregard externalities such as the United States infrastructure bill approval on Monday. The legislation requires that digital asset transactions worth more than $10,000 are reported to the Internal Revenue Service. It remains unknown whether that will be applied to individuals and businesses …

Bitcoin has stalled, but here’s why pro traders still expect $80K by January
Selecting a timeframe for technical analysis is always a tricky topic, but usually, the longer the trend, the higher the odds it shall prevail. For example, those analyzing the 3-day Bitcoin (BTC) chart will unarguably identify an ascending channel pattern that initiated in late June. Bears will also always find ways to justify their views despite the fact that Bitcoin has hit new all-time highs following the United States consumer price surge to 6.2%, which is the biggest inflation surge in 30 years. However, data from on-chain analytics firm Glassnode shows that long-term investors have stopped net accumulating and are …

Look out below! Dogecoin risks further downside after a key support is tested
Dogecoin (DOGE) is potentially at risk of losing critical support if the price falls from the ascending channel traded in for the last 53 days. Although technical analysis is not an exact science, a daily close below $0.26 will likely invalidate the current movement. Aside from the Bitcoin-driven headwinds, which are weighing on DOGE price, this week, the meme token underwent a software upgrade and users were requested to implement version 1.14.5. Two important security patches were involved: "Remote Code Execution in Dogecoin QT" (CVE-2021-3401) and "Sensitive Information Exposure on Unix platforms" (CVE-2019-15947). The latest release finalized a new minimum …

Ascending channel pattern and Ethereum options data back traders’s $5K ETH target
Ether (ETH) bulls seem excited with the recent $4,870 all-time high that was hit on Nov. 10. While it was a new high in USD, ETH price is still 51% below June 2017’s price in Bitcoin (BTC) terms but it’s entirely possible that the 0.155 BTC level reached in the previous cycle reflected the overzealous expectations that were rampant during the initial coin offer (ICO) frenzy. The Ethereum network’s own success caused congestion and high fees, bringing the competition closer. For example, in mid-2017, the leading “competitors” would have been Ethereum Classic (ETC) and NEM (XEM) and combined, those represented …

Fresh Bitcoin price highs put bulls in profit for Friday’s $1.2B BTC options expiry
Every time a new Bitcoin (BTC) all-time high is formed, excessive expectations follow. This time was no different as its price briefly touched $69,000 in the early hours of Nov. 9. Bitcoin 8h, we got our November 9th historical correction, seems to be very minor for now. Naturally I expect at bigger correction after we hit the 84k region, and then into blast off.$BTC #Crypto #Bitcoin pic.twitter.com/cfbBkOIFEK — Miles J Creative (@JohalMiles) November 9, 2021 Words are just words, so there’s no loss from being excessively bullish or bearish, but in options markets there’s a cost for placing those bets. …

How cautiously bullish Bitcoin traders use options to maintain BTC exposure
Bitcoin (BTC) traders appear undecided on the next step and this is reflected in the price oscillating between $58,400 and $63,400 over the last 14 days. There are some bearish signals coming from the United States regulatory front, but at the same time, the Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETF) surpassing $1.2 billion in assets under management has also boosted investors’ expectations. A Nov. 5 CryptoQuant report confirmed that whales have accounted for most selling pressure in recent days. The on-chain monitoring resource focused its attention on the “exchange whale ratio” — the percentage of inflows coming from the largest wallets — and …

Why Bitcoin bears are trying to keep BTC price below $62K for Friday’s options expiry
Bitcoin's (BTC) 90% year-to-date gain was largely fueled by the SEC’s recent exchange-traded fund (ETF) approval and in the first 48-hours of listing, ProShares’ Bitcoin Strategy ETF ($BITO) was able to amass $1.1 billion in assets under management. On Nov. 1 the U.S. Treasury released its stablecoins report, which basically urged Congress to regulate the industry. In short, the working group expects government agencies to require stablecoin issuers to meet the same standards as insured depository institutions. Although the consequences of a potential stablecoin regulation for cryptocurrency markets remain unknown, stablecoins are vital for exchanges, market makers and retail investors …

Google invests $1B in CME Group along with 10-year Cloud deal
Google’s parent company Alphabet has made a $1 billion equity investment in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group, the exchange responsible for many crypto derivatives products. In a Nov. 4 notice to investors, the CME Group announced the $1 billion investment from Alphabet in addition to a 10-year strategic partnership with Google Cloud aimed at accelerating the exchange’s move to the cloud and changing the way global derivatives markets operate. Google made the investment through the company’s nonvoting convertible preferred stock. "Through this long-term partnership with Google Cloud, CME Group will transform derivatives markets through technology, expanding access and creating efficiencies …

Friday’s $540M Ethereum options expiry favors traders with targets at $5K
Ether (ETH) bulls are probably very pleased with the 368% gains accrued so far in 2021 and it seems like not a day passes where the altcoin doesn’t hit a new all-time high. Even with Ether on the path to $5,000, there are still plenty of concerns about the network's capability to absorb the strong demand coming from the decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) sector. Another potential setback laying ahead is the United States Treasury report on stablecoin regulation released on Nov 1. The report stressed the necessity of Congress to "ensure appropriate federal prudential oversight on a …

Data shows Polkadot crashes after reaching $1B open interest — Will it happen again?
Whenever there is relevant growth in the number of derivatives contracts currently in play (open interest), it usually means that more traders are involved. In futures markets, longs and shorts are balanced at all times, but having a larger number of active contracts allows the participation of institutional investors that require a minimum market size. However, in Polkadot's (DOT) case, price crashes have often been anticipated by this indicator breaking the $1 billion mark. The April 17 crash happened after DOT reached its $48.30 all-time high, which led to a $1.2 billion futures open interest. Over the following week, the …

CME introduces micro Ether futures as ETH nears ATH above $4,4K
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), one of the world’s biggest derivatives marketplaces, continues expanding its cryptocurrency derivatives offerings by adding a new Ether (ETH)-based product. CME announced Tuesday that it is planning to launch a micro Ether futures contract, sized at 0.1 ETH, enabling a new type of Ether exposure to institutional and individual traders. The new product will become the fourth crypto derivatives product ever launched by CME and is expected to be rolled out on Dec. 6, 2021, pending regulatory approval. The news comes amid Ether sitting near all-time high levels after the cryptocurrency posted its highest historical …
