What’s holding crypto social networks back from greatness?
Another rainy Sunday night. You’re browsing on Facebook and Twitter — inundated with photos of your friend’s new baby, jokes that have been copied from poor hard-working comedians, and memes that certainly were funny… when you first saw them four years ago. Undeterred, you keep scrolling. There’s a tweet that proclaims a hot new cryptocurrency is going to surge to $1 million, and another claiming the self-same altcoin is destined to plunge to zero. You then see links about the latest developments in the DeFi and NFTs space, and your eyes light up. Finally — content you’re interested in! Existing …

Syntropy (NOIA) price rallies 65% after announcing Starlink integration
In the frenzy of a bull market where new projects are popping up daily and social media users scour their feeds to try and catch the next moon coin before it pumps and dumps, it can be a challenge to find projects with long term viability that also have significant upside potential. One token that has undergone several significant price breakouts in 2021 is Syntropy (NOIA), a project focused on transforming the public internet into a secure, user-focused platform with built-in encryption and other performance-enhancing features. Data from Cointelegraph Markets and TradingView shows that the price of NOIA has skyrocketed …

What is blocking the decentralized internet?
Over the past decade, the proliferation of blockchain technology has resulted in hundreds of networks that are unable to talk to each other. With data siloed and developers’ options now extremely limited, the sector has been described as being at a “historical crossroads” — and unless this industry evolves and expands, it’s feared that blockchain will struggle to achieve the same reach and interconnectivity that the internet enjoys. Interoperability has been one of the hottest phrases in the blockchain lexicon in recent years. Although this cross-chain mentality is encouraging, it could be argued that many of the solutions being touted …

How NFTs, DeFi and Web 3.0 are intertwined
While blockchain itself provides the technology constructs to facilitate exchange, ownership and trust in the network, it is in the digitization of value elements where asset tokenization is essential. Tokenization is the process of converting the assets and rights to a property into a digital representation, or token, on a blockchain network. Distinguishing between cryptocurrency and tokenized assets is important in understanding exchange vehicles, valuation models and fungibility across the various value networks that are emerging and posing interoperability challenges. These are not just technical challenges, but also business challenges around equitable swaps. Asset tokenization can lead to the creation …

The role of decentralized networks in a data-abundant, hyperconnected world
When it comes to computer data storage, it can seem like we are running out of numbers. If you are old enough, you may remember when diskette storage was measured in kilobytes in the 1980s. If you are a little younger, you are probably more familiar with the thumb drives denominated in gigabytes or hard drives that hold terabytes today. Humanity’s unfathomable data footprint But we are now producing data at an unprecedented rate. As a result, we are going to need to be able to grasp numbers so large that they seem almost beyond human comprehension. In order to …

Blockchain project takes on Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services
A blockchain project says that it is aiming to shake up content delivery networks (CDNs) — and break the monopoly that has been established by the three main providers: Cloudflare, Amazon Web Services, and Akamai. According to Meson, these three companies share 89% of customers between them, but the high prices they charge can often be off-putting to small and medium-sized businesses. One of the biggest challenges for online platforms is ensuring that traffic to their site can be scaled up at periods of peak demand — and CDNs play a crucial role in ensuring that online content loads quickly. …

GameStop tale exposes regulatory paternalism and DeFi’s true value
Though seemingly coming from nowhere for many, the themes behind the Reddit-fueled r/Wallstreetbets pump of GameStop feel familiar. Watching it unfold, I tried to figure out just why it had captured my interest to such a degree, and, to me, it was a spillover into the traditional markets of some pervasive themes driving crypto. Despite some competition in the narrative, I view the motivating force — and by it, I mean the social media-fueled spread of the message that drew enough widespread interest to have an impact in the market — behind the GME pump as analogous with what, at …

Major privacy-focused browser Brave is inching closer to offering a private search engine. Brave announced Wednesday that the company has acquired Tailcat, an open search engine developed by a group formerly working on privacy search and browser products at Cliqz. According to the announcement, Tailcat will serve as a foundation for the upcoming Brave Search — an inbuilt search engine designed to enable private and transparent web surfing. Brave CEO and co-founder Brendan Eich told Cointelegraph that the firm …
