‘Cheaper than it looks:’ Fidelity exec says BTC undervalued and oversold
Jurrien Timmer, director of global macro of Fidelity, has argued that Bitcoin (BTC) may be “cheaper than it looks,” highlighting evidence on Tuesday that the cryptocurrency may be both undervalued and oversold. Addressing his 126,000 Twitter followers, Timmer explained that while Bitcoin has fallen back to 2020 levels, its price-to-network ratio has reeled all the way back to 2013 and 2017 levels, which he said may indicate it is undervalued. Is BTC cheaper than it looks? If we consider a simple “P/E” metric for BTC to be the price/network ratio, then that ratio is back to 2017 and 2013 levels, …

Is the bottom in? Raoul Pal, Scaramucci load up, Novogratz and Hayes weigh in
Some of the highest-profile investors in crypto believe that a crypto market bottom is fast approaching and the timing is right to buy — although one still warns of catastrophic outcomes should prices fall below established support levels. Billionaire Mike Novogratz, founder, chairman and CEO of digital asset merchant bank Galaxy Digital Holdings, told a Morgan Stanley conference on Monday that cryptocurrencies may be close to a bottom, with Ether (ETH) likely to hold at $1,000 and Bitcoin (BTC) at around $20,000 to $21,000. The bottom for crypto would be realized faster than that of United States stocks, which could …

Chain.com tokens lose 96% of value in 24 hours due to flash crash before recovery
On Tuesday, tokens of cloud blockchain infrastructure provider Chain.com (XCN) suddenly lost over 90% of their value before recovering most of their losses later in the day. In a post-mortem analysis published by Chain.com, the firm said that a market maker and API error at 1:00 pm SGT (5:00 am UCT) began to cause XCN to drop in large percentiles. As the event took place, corresponding bids became stuck via API orders, causing further downward selling pressure due to low liquidity and margin calls. But by approximately 3:00 pm SGT (7:00 am UCT), developers at Chain.com conferred with exchanges and …

Gary Gensler, chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, reiterated his call for investor protection in securities offered by crypto firms. Kennedy Human Rights Compass Investor Conference on Tuesday, Gensler said the SEC would use its existing authority to focus on cryptocurrency projects and exchanges, warning people of potentially “too good to be true” returns on investments. According to Gensler, the bulk of the tokens currently in the crypto market fall under the regulatory purview of the SEC, subject to the same disclosure requirements as securities. "We've seen again that …

Crypto crash wreaking havoc on DeFi protocols, CEXs
On Monday, a heavy cryptocurrency sell-off in the markets caused significant ripples for projects and entities alike. On popular decentralized finance, or DeFi, lending protocol Aave, utilization rates have fallen across nearly all stablecoin borrowings. Most notably, borrowings for Binance USD (BUSD) now stand at a mere 30% compared to a high of 80% back in May. The utilization rate is the ratio of borrowed to deposited funds. Since borrowers are required to post digital asset collateral before taking out a loan on Aave, users are likely withdrawing en mass in light of Monda's sell-off to prevent liquidation. Data from …
