Examiner finds customer deception, ‘very Ponzi-like’ use of funds at Celsius
Court-appointed examiner Shoba Pillay submitted her final report on select aspects of operations at bankrupt cryptocurrency Celsius on Jan. 31. The document was commissioned on Sept. 29 and is 470 pages long, not counting the 31 appendices. Pillay is a former federal prosecutor and partner at law firm Jenner & Block. New York financial regulator investigates Gemini over FDIC claims: Report
New York State’s Department of Financial Services is reportedly investigating cryptocurrency exchange Gemini over claims the firm made in regards to assets under its Earn lending program. Aave deploys V3 on Ethereum after 10 months of testing on other networks

Solana DeFi project Friktion shuts down its user platform
Solana decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Friktion is shutting down its user interface and urging customers to withdraw their assets from the protocol, according to a statement on Jan. 26. The project's website will no longer deliver the same services, operating in withdrawal-only mode for all Volts and making deposits unavailable. New 'Celsius token' may be used to repay creditors: report
Bankrupt crypto lending firm Celsius may issue its own token to repay creditors, according to a January 24 report from Bloomberg. The report cites a video court hearing as the source of the information. According to the report, Celsius attorney Ross M. Kwasteniet told the court that the firm is negotiating with its creditors on how to relaunch the platform and adequately pay them back. Genesis eyes fast resolution to creditor disputes and bankruptcy exit in May
A lawyer for bankrupt crypto lending firm Genesis is optimistic the firm can resolve its creditor disputes as early as this week and the company could come out of Chapter 11 proceedings by late May. BlockFi exec argues bankruptcy court should approve bonuses to retain talent
Megan Crowell, the chief people officer at crypto lending firm BlockFi, has petitioned a court to allow bonuses for “key employees” amid Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. In a Jan. 23 declaration for United State Bankruptcy Court in the District of New Jersey, Crowell said without giving certain financial incentives, BlockFi might be unable to retain employees in a “highly competitive” crypto industry. The first hearing in Genesis Capital's bankruptcy case will be held on January 23 at 2:00 pm (EST), according to court filings. United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Sean H. Lane is hearing the case. Nexo agrees to $45M settlement with SEC and NASAA over earn product
Crypto lender Nexo Capital has agreed to pay $45 million in penalties to the United States Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) for allegedly failing to register the offer and sale of its Earn Interest Product (EIP). The news was announced by the SEC and NASAA in two separate statements on Jan. 19. Troubled crypto lender Vauld gets extended creditor protection
Embattled crypto lending platform Vauld one more time gets the period of creditor protection from a Singapore court. The company should come up with a revival plan before Feb. 28.
