Polkadot Will Feature Layer Two Scaling Thanks to Celer Network
Celer Network will develop its layer-2 solutions for Polkadot, an upcoming blockchain network developed by Web3 Foundation and supported by Parity Technologies. The sidechain scaling solution is positioned to improve performance beyond what is possible with layer one scaling. As announced on Feb. 20, Celer Network and the Web3 Foundation have partnered to port Celer’s State Channel Network technology to Polkadot’s development environment. Cointelegraph interviewed Mo Dong, co-founder of Celer Network, to learn more about the planned integration. Layer Two Benefits Celer Network focuses on providing a blockchain-agnostic scaling solution based on layer two scaling. It is part of a …

New Parity Update Fixes a Vulnerability Present in Some ETH Nodes
Blockchain software development firm Parity released an update for its Ethereum (ETH) node software which fixes a vulnerability present in some instances. Remote node crashing vulnerability In a blog post published on Aug. 29, Parity announced the release of an update for its Ethereum node software fixing the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) vulnerability. Per the announcement, nodes running Parity’s software with manually enabled public-facing RPC could be remotely crashed with a specially constructed RPC call. The team suspects that nodes with manually enabled tracing may also be vulnerable to the exploit. The author of the post points out that not …

Parity Delays Ethereum Network Hardfork Over Implementation of EIPs
Parity, a blockchain infrastructure company that runs the core of the Ethereum network, is delaying the Ethereum core devs’ planned hardfork until Sept. 6. Waiting on Parity EtherWorld founder Pooja Ranjan provided notes from Ethereum Core Devs Meeting 69 via GitHub on Aug. 24 — a day after the dev meeting occurred. According to Parity core developer Wei Tang, the organization needs two more weeks before devs can proceed in selecting a block number for the Istanbul fork. According to Ranjan’s notes, Tang said that Parity will need until Sept. 6 for its implementation: “We need time till 6th September …

Blockchain.com to Integrate Polkadot Tokens Into Its Wallet
Luxembourg-based crypto data supplier and crypto wallet Blockchain.com has partnered with blockchain interoperability protocol Polkadot. Driving decentralization On Aug. 20, Blockchain.com announced it will integrate its Blockchain Wallet with the Polkadot Network in order to drive the adoption and decentralization of Polkadot tokens (DOTs). Once the integration is complete, users of Blockchain.com will be able to store, send and receive DOTs — and vote on proposed amendments to council members and the network protocol. The new partnership aims to promote the idea of decentralization. Peter Smith, co-founder and CEO of Blockchain.com, said Polkadot is “exactly the type of purpose-driven network” …

Parity Developer Quits Ethereum Projects Amid Outrage Sparked by Recent Tweet
Afri Schoeden, release manager at blockchain infrastructure firm Parity Technologies, has quit all Ethereum projects after a controversial tweet that sparked outrage on social media. Schoeden spoke to blockchain media BreakerMag on Thursday, Feb. 21. In his tweet, Schoeden reportedly criticized Serenity, also known as “Ethereum 2.0” — a final upgrade for the Ethereum network that brings its mainnet over to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm. The tweet, which has since been deleted, reportedly read: “Polkadot delivers what Serenity ought to be...” Polkadot is Parity’s upcoming protocol aimed at linking different blockchains. Schoedon told BreakerMag that he will “no longer …

Ethereum Client Parity’s Afri Schoeden Quits Social Media Amid Community Infighting
Afri Schoeden, release manager at blockchain infrastructure firm Parity Technologies, has withdrawn from social media amid a spate of infighting in the Ethereum (ETH) community. In a tweet posted on Feb. 17, Schoeden stated that “until further notice [...] I will no longer respond on Gitter, Skype, Discord, Slack, Wire, Twitter, and Reddit.” Parity Technologies is a United Kingdom-based blockchain infrastructure provider, known primarily for developing one of the most well-known clients for Ethereum, also known as Parity. Parity’s forthcoming “Polkadot” protocol — a form of “para chain” that links many different types of blockchains — is slated to be …

Parity’s Jutta Steiner: Web 3.0 Will Evolve as Interoperability and Usability Improve
This interview has been edited and condensed. Cointelegraph spoke recently with Dr. Jutta Steiner, the co-founder and CEO of Parity Technologies, about what originally drew her into the Ethereum (ETH) crowd and how she plans to bring more interoperability to blockchain. During the recent TechCrunch Ethereum Meetup in Zug, Switzerland, Steiner detailed how her background in math and science ties into her work with blockchain, as well as how the new Polkadot protocol could help usher in the web 3.0 era. Molly Jane: Could you begin by telling me a bit about yourself? Jutta Steiner: My name is Jutta Steiner, …

#EIP-999: Why A Vote To Release Parity Locked Funds Evoked So Much Controversy
Parity’s recent call for a vote on their submitted EIP-999, which would allow for affected users to regain access to their assets stored in the multisig wallet, caused a stir within the Ethereum community, even prompting Vitalik Buterin himself to call for a boycott of Consensus 2018, stating “sensationalist” coverage of EIP-999 as part of the reason. The situation started with the July 2017 Parity hack, which resulted in the loss of 150,000 Ethereum (ETH). Parity fixed the vulnerability in the code, but unfortunately the redeployed smart contract code came with yet another vulnerability. This new vulnerability was accidentally exploited …
