Ethereum traders reduce their bullish bets as ETH struggles reclaim $3K
Ether (ETH) is still in troubled waters after failing to break a 5-week long descending channel top for the third time in a row. The March 2 test of the $3,000 resistance was followed by a 17.5% correction in 5 days, which signals that buyers are somewhat reluctant to defend the price. To date, Ether suffers from high network transaction fees, even though it dropped from $19 in mid-February to the current $13 per transaction. While this is less than peaks seen previously, $13 per transaction is still incompatible with most games, NFT and even DeFi transactions. Even more worrisome …

DeFi detective alleges this 'suspicious' smart contract code may put dozens of projects at risk
According to famed decentralized finance, or DeFi, detective zachxbt, 31 nonfungible-tokens, or NFTs, projects may be at risk due to "suspicious code." In a lengthy Twitter thread published Tuesday, the DeFi detective first raised the issue of NFTs project Thestarlab — which was allegedly compromised for 197.175 Ether (ETH), worth $580,325 USD at time of publication. Zachxbt quoted fellow blockchain investigator _MouseDev, who came to the following conclusion after reviewing the code behind Thestarlab: "The smart contract [for this project] can never truly be renounced or transferred—only an additional owner. The original deployer will always be considered the owner. This …

Ethereum's TVL dominance drops to 55% as Bloomberg analyst paints $1.7K bearish target
Another big drop in the U.S. stock market could leave Ethereum's native token Ether (ETH) in a similar downside spell, according to the latest Bloomberg report on digital assets. Ethereum faces global recession risks Mike McGlone, the senior commodity strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, anticipates U.S. equities to face downside pressure against the prospects of the ongoing energy-price spikes and their ability to invoke a 2008-like global market recession "The war in Ukraine and spiking crude make a potent combination for a global recession," wrote McGlone in the report, adding that top cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether could also face initial …

Altcoin Roundup: JunoSwap, Solidly and VVS Finance give DeFi a much-needed refresh
Decentralized finance (DeFi) was the talk of the town in early 2021, but it has since taken a back seat to more appealing sectors like nonfungible tokens (NFTs), memecoins and blockchain gaming. Now that cross-chain bridges and interoperability have allowed for the easier migration of assets to competing chains, a new class of DeFi protocols is arising to challenge those left from 2021. Here’s a look at three DeFi projects that have launched on some of the up-and-coming layer-1 blockchain networks, catching the eye of the crypto community. VVS Finance VVS Finance is the largest DeFi protocol on the Cronos …

Interoperability has a new meaning thanks to this Polkadot-powered startup
Blockchain development is an ever-expanding space. In what feels like a daily occurrence, new projects and networks appear that claim to offer faster performance or new functions, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Whether or not those claims are true, the existence of multiple blockchain networks requires developers to consider the benefits and disadvantages of each one before building a decentralized application (DApp). And, more times than not, developers are locked to their network of choice from inception onward. A vital decision Building a DApp is no easy task. A development team must learn one or more programming languages, work around …

Ethereum price finally topped $3K, but data suggests a reversal is nowhere in sight
There is an old saying in traditional markets which is actually more like a trading rule. It goes, “when the trend is negative, one can only be neutral or short,” meaning bet on the price decrease. The problem is that a relief bounce tricks traders into believing that the negative prevailing sentiment has shifted into a buyers’ market. For example, after analyzing Ether's (ETH) price chart, one might conclude that after a 41% crash, a bull run should be ignited sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a fallacy because markets can exist in periods of non-definition …

Ethereum price moves toward $3K, but pro traders choose not to add leverage
Even though Ether (ETH) price bounced over 20% from the $2,300 low on Feb. 22, derivatives data shows that investors are still cautious. To date, Ether's price is down 24% for the year, and key overhead resistances lay ahead. Ethereum's most pressing issue has been high network transaction fees and investors are increasingly worried that this will remain an issue even after the network integrates its long-awaited upgrades. For example, the 7-day network average transaction fee is still above $18, while the network value locked in smart contracts (TVL) decreased 25% to $111 billion between Jan. 1 and Feb. 27. …

Neo users explain why they've held on to the project despite China's heavy crypto crackdown
It's been a wild ride for Neo (dubbed "Ethereum of China") investors in the past few years, especially as China began to incrementally introduce harsher crypto regulations. But despite the odds, the community appears to be resilient, with a dedicated society of developers worldwide and a bourgeoning decentralized finance, or DeFi, hub that came into prominence via the launch of Neo N3 mainnet last year. As told by Neo investors Lucas and Jiří, who spoke to Cointelegraph, they were not expecting such a "huge drop in price" for Neo. Still, they nevertheless decided to hold their Neo tokens through all …

Ethereum futures premium hits a 7-month low as ETH tests the $2,400 support
Ether (ETH) reached a $3,280 local high on Feb. 10, marking a 51.5% recovery from the $2,160 cycle low on Jan. 24. That price was the lowest in six months, and it partially explains why derivatives traders’ main sentiment gauge plummeted to bearish levels. Ether’s futures contract annualized premium, or basis, reached 2.5% on Feb. 25, reflecting bearishness despite the 11% rally to $2,700. The worsening conditions depict investors’ doubts regarding the Ethereum network’s shift to a proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism. As reported by Cointelegraph, the much-anticipated sharding upgrade that will significantly boost processing capacity should come into effect in late …

Altcoin Roundup: 3 portfolio trackers NFT and DeFi investors can use to stay organized
The cryptocurrency ecosystem has seen a tremendous amount of growth over the past couple of years, as the introduction of decentralized finance (DeFi) and the popularity of nonfungible tokens (NFT) have led to an explosion of projects on more than a dozen blockchain networks. The rapidly growing ecosystem means investors have to keep track of multiple wallet addresses, making portfolio trackers a popular option for traders needing to manage a diverse multichain portfolio. Here are three portfolio-tracking decentralized applications, or DApps, crypto traders can use to help monitor their investments. Zapper Zapper supports the basic management of cryptocurrencies held on …

OpenSea disables features temporarily as contract migration completes
The week-long period that OpenSea gave users to migrate their nonfungible token (NFT) listings ends today. Following the deadline, the platform announced that some features on the site may not be available temporarily due to the migration. On Feb. 19, OpenSea pushed a new smart contract and urged users to start the migration of their NFT listings from the old contract to the new one. The NFT marketplace mentions that the upgrade brings new features such as bulk listings and more descriptive signatures while ensuring that all inactive listings expire. However, hours after the announcement, the platform reported phishing attacks …

'Bitcoin makes no sense for blockchain developers,' says 1inch Network co-founder
Anton Bukov, the co-founder of 1inch Network, thinks that Ethereum will likely become the main settlement layer for a multi-chain decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. “There is like a high chance that most of the chains will try to commit their states to Ethereum as a higher layer,” Bukov said in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph. Bukov, who is number 39 in Cointelegraph’s Top 100 list for 2022, acknowledges that in order to achieve that, Ethereum needs to solve the scalability issues that limit its transaction output.
