Bitcoin (BTC) and most major altcoins sold off along with global equity markets and crude oil on Nov. 26. The markets were roiled on news of a new coronavirus variant detected in South Africa that is worrying scientists due to its large number of mutations in the spike protein. The sharp fall has resulted in cross-crypto liquidations of over $750 million over the 24-hour period but the funding rates across exchanges remain elevated. This suggests that the selling may not be over yet. Bitcoin’s monthly close for November is most likely not going to hit analyst PlanB’s worst-case scenario of …
A transaction on the Solana network takes less energy than two Google searches, and 24 times less energy than charging your phone, according to a Nov. 25 report by the Solana Foundation. The report states that a single transaction on its network uses 0.00051 kWh, or 1,836 Joules, of energy. According to Google, an average search uses 0.0003 kWh or 1,080 Joules of energy. Perhaps more surprisingly, the report claims the entire Solana network uses an estimated 3,186,000 kWh per year, which is equivalent to the average electricity usage of 986 American households. In May, the Solana Foundation contracted Robert …
Bitcoin (BTC) and most major altcoins continue to be pinned below their respective overhead resistances, indicating that bears are selling on rallies. According to Ki Young Ju, CEO of on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant, “whales are depositing Bitcoin to exchanges.” Curiously, the outflows from the exchanges have also continued and due to this, the reserves are still hovering close to their lowest levels since mid-2018. In a somewhat contradictory report, Glassnode said that long-term holders may be “reducing their spending, and thus are more likely to be adding to positions, not exiting them.” While Bitcoin has been in a corrective phase …
California-based music streaming platform Audius released new functionality that allows artists and fans to embed nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on various blogs and social media platforms such as Twitter and Discord. The “embedded” functionality aims to improve fan engagement for musicians through NFT adoption and Web 3.0 integrations. To enable the feature, artists need to connect their Audius accounts with Phantom wallet, a crypto wallet centered around the Solana ecosystem. Aimed at increasing the discoverability of Solana NFTs, the company stated: “NFT holders can embed their collectibles from the two biggest blockchains on Twitter timelines, personal blogs, and websites. Thanks to …
Bitcoin (BTC) continues to be pinned down below $60,000 indicating that higher levels are attracting selling from traders. The S&P 500 made a new all-time high today on reports that U.S. President Joe Biden renominated Jerome Powell to serve a second term as the Federal Reserve chair. This news also boosted the U.S. dollar currency index (DXY) to its highest level since July 2020. Usually, sharp gains in the DXY are inversely correlated with Bitcoin and the same can be seen in November of this year as well. While the DXY is up about 2.3% in November, Bitcoin is down …
Bitcoin (BTC) stayed true to form on Nov. 22 as the hour before the Wall St. opening bell was met with a sudden surge. Skittish Bitcoin darts around below $60,000 Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView followed BTC/USD as it rose almost $3,000 in minutes after hitting multi-day lows of $56,640 Monday. #Bitcoin just pumped $2500 in like 5 minutes — Benjamin Cowen (@intocryptoverse) November 22, 2021 The pair had seen strong rejection after briefly breaking the $60,000 mark, this now clearly acting as resistance and a critical level to break in order to continue the bull run. As …
Bitcoin (BTC) dropped below $56,000 on Nov. 19, completing a near 20% correction from the all-time high. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, which remained in the greed zone for most of the past two months, has plummeted into the fear category with a reading of 34. Cryptocurrency research firm Delphi Digital said in a recent report that the sell-off in Bitcoin was “largely driven by a wave of liquidations rather than a fundamental shift in narrative,” and the analysts expect the drawdown to be “relatively short-lived.” The recent correction does not seem to have shaken the long-term holders. According …
Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) are testing psychologically important support levels at $60,000 and $4,000 respectively. Both these levels are critical to keep the uptrend intact in the short term. While the fall may scare off leveraged traders, Bitcoin whales seem to be viewing this dip as a buying opportunity. On-chain data shows that the third-largest Bitcoin whale added 207 Bitcoin to the holdings at an average price of about $62,053 per Bitcoin. After the latest purchase, the whale’s holding has increased by 635 Bitcoin in November, according to journalist Colin Wu. However, it is not all bullish news for …
The top cryptocurrencies by market capitalization keep changing over time as the industry matures. Solana (SOL) has seen its value skyrocket so far this year and has been consistently processing over 2,500 transactions per second. The cryptocurrency’s price, according to TradingView data, is up nearly 13,000% year-to-date as the year started with SOL trading slightly below $2. Solana is now changing hands-on exchanges for around $240. Solana is a blockchain platform that aims to achieve high transaction speeds at a low cost without sacrificing decentralization. To do so, it relies on a number of unique features, including a “proof-of-history” mechanism. …
Institutional traders have locked a record sum of capital into Bitcoin investment products despite trade volume declining during the second half of 2021. According to CoinShares’ Nov. 15 “Digital Asset Fund Flows Weekly” report, Bitcoin (BTC) investment products saw total inflows of $97.5 million between Nov. 8 and Nov. 12 — pushing the sector’s assets under management (AUM) up to a record $56 billion. Year-to-date (YTD) inflows also tagged $6.5 billion last week. Bitcoin instruments represented 64.6% of the $150.9 million that flowed into digital asset investment products last week. While the record AUM coincided with BTC establishing a new …
Bitcoin (BTC) could not sustain its gains and succumbed to profit-booking as the U.S. trading markets started the week, possibly indicating that bears have not given up yet. PlanB, creator of the popular BTC stock-to-flow model, does not seem to be perturbed by the dull price action of the past few days. The analyst believes that his worst-case scenario projection of $98,000 by Dec. 1 and $135,000 by Jan. 1 remains in place. However, long-term holders do not seem to be waiting for higher levels and have started booking profits, according to analyst William Clemente who cited Glassnode data. According …
Bitcoin (BTC) price continues to weaken following the shakeout of the leveraged traders in the derivatives markets on Nov. 10. This caused the derivative funding rates to drop to the neutral territory of 0.01% across exchanges. Data analysis firm Arcane Research said in its latest weekly newsletter that the derivatives markets had matured compared to the run to the previous all-time high in April. The firm highlighted that the futures’ basis, the difference between Bitcoin’s spot price and futures price, which was at elevated levels in April have dropped much lower, “indicating a healthier market.” According to Bloomberg senior ETF …
