Altcoins notch triple-digit gains as Bitcoin price pushes toward $60K
If this past weekend is any indication of the current bull market cycle, then an altcoin season may be well underway. Similar to previous cycles, after Bitcoin (BTC) makes a significant run-up in price and then enters a consolidation period, funds begin to migrate into large and small market cap altcoins. Data from Cointelegraph Markets and TradingView shows that while Bitcoin traded in a range between $57,000 and $60,200 over the past week, multiple altcoins saw double-digit gains as exchange listings and protocol developments brought a new wave of enthusiasm and trading volume for select projects. Tron ecosystem leads the …

WINk (WIN) soars as retail DeFi investors flee high Ethereum gas costs
Decentralized finance has exploded in popularity over the past year and many analysts have pointed to the 2020 'summer of DeFi' as the primary catalyst for the rallies seen in Ether (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC). In the beginning, investors were able to easily secure 4-digit annual percentage yield (APY) on an almost endless number of attractively priced assets on Uniswap but the increased activity on the Etheruem network eventually led to unsustainable spikes in gas fees and serious network congestion. These skyrocketing gas fees have priced out the average retail investor from participating in even the simplest protocol interactions like …

Gambling tokens hit the jackpot as COVID-19 lockdowns drag on
Global developments over the past year have reshaped all aspects of daily life for most people and initiated some structural changes in how society operates. Lockdowns and travel restrictions have led to the rise of remote working and altered the way people make use of their free time. The coronavirus pandemic essentially shut down travel and this has had a direct impact on most entertainment hubs around the world. Gambling destinations like Las Vegas and Macau were pulverized by the pandemic and most of the world's most popular sporting events were halted or took place without spectators being present. The …

What Ethereum killer? On-chain data shows competitor networks are still behind
Ether (ETH) remains the second-largest cryptocurrency and it absolutely dominates the smart contract industry according to an array of network usage metrics. Even though the network has been overwhelmed by peak activity which is causing median fees to surpass $10, the network effect of its large user and developer base seems to be enough to sustain its position as the second ranked cryptocurrency by market capitalization. Nevertheless, some key on-chain metrics are beginning to show a potential change in Etheruem’s supremacy, which raises the age old question of whether an "Ethereum killer" will be able to dethrone the top network? …

DeFi token CRV spikes after reports PayPal acquired unrelated custody firm Curv
Excitable speculators mistakenly rushed to invest in the native token of decentralized finance protocol Curve Finance (CRV) after reports emerged that payments giant PayPal has acquired the unrelated Israel-based crypto custody firm, Curv. News of PayPal’s Curv acquisition was reported on March 2, with the publications citing anonymous sources “familiar with the matter.” Israel-based media has reported the company may have been sold for between $200 million and $300 million. Within an hour of the news breaking, Curve’s CRV token had rallied by more than 10% as opportunistic traders raced each other to enter the markets — pushing prices up …

Tron’s DLive platform under fire for live streaming US Capitol extremists
DLive, the decentralized streaming platform that Justin Sun purchased and migrated to Tron in December 2019, was used by several far-right extremists to livestream their insurrection in the United States Capitol building on Wednesday. The extremists were also able to raise donations during the broadcast, and the platform has been accused of allowing extremists to raise “hundreds of thousands” of dollars, mostly in cryptocurrency, since it was founded. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch blog, at least five DLive accounts livestreamed Wednesday’s shocking protest: “Murder the Media,” “Loulz,” “Woozuh,” “Gloomtube” and “ Baked Alaska.” However, the organization could …

Five times crypto got weird in 2020
Every industry, group, clique and conclave has its own share of weirdos — cryptocurrency and blockchain are no exception. Considering that cryptocurrency is the so-called “native” currency of the internet — the repository of the sum of human knowledge and the eccentricities there contained — the crypto sector is home to perhaps even weirder moments and personalities than more established and traditional industries. Outside of crypto’s inherently odd character, 2020 itself has shaped up to be a bizarre, if not downright terrible year. Existing socioeconomic problems in countries around the globe were exacerbated by the appearance of the novel coronavirus …

Tron asks NY judge to turf ICO suit from Binance bag holders
The Tron Foundation has requested a New York federal judge dismiss a class action lawsuit alleging securities violations through Tron’s 2017 initial coin offering, describing the claims as “fatally flawed.” The Chinese blockchain developer filed a motion to dismiss on Dec. 15, asserting that the case has “no connection” to New York. The foundation also emphasized that the lead plaintiffs did not participate in Tron’s ICO, and that they filed the suit roughly two years after the offering’s completion: “Despite having not purchased during the initial offering or from Tron, plaintiffs attempt to form a nexus between their purchases and …

Tron legitimized a project that pulled an exit scam, community says
The Tron (TRX) community is accusing the Just Foundation of whitelisting a “DeFi project” that eventually pulled an exit scam, pocketing about $2 million in TRX tokens. According to a post on Tron’s subreddit, the foundation created a token whitelist for its Uniswap clone, JustSwap, to curb instances of fraudulent tokens and projects. The project in question, Tron Supernode, can still be found in the whitelist, even though the website has been completely deactivated as the community reported that withdrawals were disabled. According to the community, the project’s Telegram channels and social media accounts were closed even earlier than the …

The TRON network is about to get its first-ever public oracle system
A new project says it is delivering the first-ever public oracle system on the TRON network, enabling real-world data to be injected into smart contracts. According to the team behind the Bridge oracle, the lack of this infrastructure is currently a pain point as it limits the blockchain’s use case to a tokenization platform. They believe that the creation of this system is crucial for attracting small businesses who may not have the means, ability or time to create their own dedicated oracles. This could help the Tron (TRX) network progress and expand in the months and years to come. …
