Twitter’s Jack Dorsey takes aim at Coinbase’s apolitical stance
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has taken major U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase to task over its open letter to employees published on Sept. 28. The letter, written by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, explained why the firm intends to avoid political and social distractions, and instead focus on its core mission of building an open financial system for the world. The new direction has met with strong support in some quarters and pushback from others. In a Twitter post to his 4.7 million followers, Dorsey argues that “Bitcoin (aka crypto) is direct activism against an unverifiable and exclusionary financial system.” He goes …

The modern world has become too small for comfort. The truth is that technological advancement is a double-edged sword, which has the potential to enhance human lives drastically at many levels and disrupt them in the blink of an eye, shaping things on a global level to an extent yet not seen. Even though we enjoy fast progress in crypto services and digital asset fields, constant security breaches and hacks pose a severe threat to market participants. The very essence of safety in the modern world is questioned. Therefore, it’s about time we clarify the complex topic of fungibility in …

Square CEO Jack Dorsey says Bitcoin holds the keys to security

During the engagement, the CEO spoke positively of crypto's largest asset, Bitcoin (BTC). "The whole spirit of Bitcoin, for instance, is to provide a trusted system in a distrusted environment, which is the internet," Dorsey told host and HRF president Thor Halvorssen in an interview, published on Sept. 25. Dorsey's comment came in the midst of a discussion on security and methods for protection against nefarious parties. "I fundamentally believe that …

New Loom Network CEO clarifies concerning information published by former employee
One of Loom Network's former employees recently leaked information about the company's Kickstarter-funded game, Relentless (also called Zombie Battleground). The leak alleged that the project, and potentially the entire Loom Network, were no longer actively being developed. The former employee, who has not worked for the company in over a year, claimed that the issues largely stemmed from Loom's former CEO, Matthew Campbell. Campbell left Loom in Feb. 2020, and was replaced by a new CEO. "Dilanka accessed our Kickstarter account without authorization and sent out that rambling update," Vadim Macagon, the current CEO of Loom Network, told Cointelegraph on …

You won’t believe the depths to which crypto scammers on Twitter are willing to sink
Last Friday night, crypto YouTuber Ivan on Tech messaged me on Twitter. Shortly into our conversation, he graciously offered me an investment opportunity in “Bitcoin trading/mining”, courtesy of a platform that he alleged was associated with Binance. In reality, however, I was being approached by an Ivan impersonator, peddling a crypto affinity scam. The platform "Ivan" advertised, called Cryptobinance, has no affiliation with the actual Binance exchange, a representative of the company told Cointelegraph. But I played along with the scammer to see what additional information could be elicited from him. I told him that I was impressed by his …

Jack Dorsey still thinks Bitcoin is the strongest contender for an internet-native currency
The world of cryptocurrency moves at a whirlwind pace but Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey remains committed to its earliest lodestone, Bitcoin (BTC). In an interview with Reuters on Sept. 10, Dorsey, who also founded the mobile-payment platform Square, said he believes the coin’s potential still outshines later developments: “I think the internet warrants a [...] native currency and [...] Bitcoin is probably the best manifestation of that thus far. I can’t see that changing given all the people who want the same thing and build it for that potential.” Dorsey connected Bitcoin’s founding principles with the cooperative and decentralized ethos …

Law Decoded: Public companies, private markets, crypto offerings and you, Aug. 28–Sept. 4
Editor’s note It is a cruel twist of fate that during the first hiatus week in Law Decoded’s existence, the SEC put out long-awaited updates to accredited investor qualifications. Upon reading the news, your faithful and ever-vigilant policy editor put down his phone and cast a wistful eye upon the sun’s reflection dancing in the midground of the Atlantic Ocean. Bracing himself with a deep quaff of Corona, he thought ‘Not today.’ Before the sorrow of not being the one to bring the news to you could overwhelm him, he grabbed a battered borrowed surfboard and made for the waves. …

‘Decentralized Reddit’ enables users to secure Twitter on the blockchain
Reddit-inspired social aggregation platform Discussions.app announced its expansion to the Telos network on Sept. 3. The first project to come out of the new collaboration will be a decentralized identity system, allowing users to record their accounts and contacts from Twitter and other social networks to the blockchain in the event of a block or ban. In the social-media age, users spend years growing networks and followers on various platforms, although this work can be destroyed by the sometimes arbitrary-seeming decisions of the networks. Discussions.app addresses this by allowing users to migrate across platforms without losing their valuable identities and …
